Start from Stresa and follow the SS33 road (road signs to Verbania), pass Fondotoce’s roundabout and turn right when you see the sign "Camping Isolino" to enter in the Natural Reserve of the thicket of Fondotoce, a European protected area.
Continue on the path along the river, cycling among lush trees, flowers and, if you’ll be lucky, some wild rabbits. Pass then under the road bridge, the railway bridge and the highway bridge.
Take the asphalted provincial road to Mergozzo and then get back on the path (following signs for Mergozzo). Cross the sport field and continue until the end of the path. Then follow the road signs to reach the lakeside in Mergozzo and enjoy the peaceful landscape.
Go back same way or continue along the lakeside and take the blue path (Sentiero Azzurro).
The whole path is signaled by red signs.
Curiosity: Fondotoce Natural Reserve is the largest wetland and thicket of Lake Maggiore, is inhabited by several animals like reptiles, amphibians, foxes, badgers, weasels and of course many lake fish species.
